MEET OUT FLUFFY FRIENDS
The dog yard
At Snow Resort Kirkenes, our huskies are more than just sled dogs – they are the soul of our Arctic adventure. Whether dashing through snowy tundras in winter or greeting guests with wagging tails in summer, they embody the energy, joy, and wilderness of the far north.
The Heartbeat of Kirkenes Snow Resort
Our story with huskies began in the winter of 2007, modestly but with great ambition. With just 20 dogs and a dream, we started building — brick by brick, year by year. Today, in the easternmost edge of the Siberian Taiga where Norway meets Finland and Russia, we proudly host one of Norway’s largest husky kennels.
180 Huskies – Our Greatest Treasure
Among all the wonders at Kirkenes Snow Resort, our 180 Alaskan huskies remain our true pride. In winter, they thrive as powerful sled dogs, carrying guests across the endless white tundras of Finnmark. In summer, they become loyal companions – playful, social, and always eager for a walk, cuddle, or a game in our large free yards.
Care, Training, and Wellbeing
Happy and healthy dogs are our highest priority. Every husky receives the best possible care, attention, and training. Skilled dog trainers ensure that puppies learn proper behavior and socialization from the very beginning. Our dedicated mushers and handlers share more than just knowledge – they have a deep passion for dogs and provide the affection every animal deserves.
Athletes of the North
Alaskan huskies are born athletes, built for endurance and joyfully eager to run all day long. Winter is their favorite season – nothing excites them more than pulling a sled under a starry sky lit by dancing northern lights. When summer brings warmer days, they rest and recharge, enjoying walks with visitors or rides in wagons on cooler days. By autumn, their energy rises again as training begins for the long winter ahead.
Meet the Huskies
For true dog lovers, our husky yard is an attraction in itself. Guests can meet and greet the dogs, talk to our mushers, and, of course, spend time playing with our adorable puppies. Even if you don’t book a sled ride or hike, it’s easy to lose track of time here – surrounded by wagging tails, joyful barks, and the undeniable spirit of the Arctic’s most faithful companions.
Dog and Animal Welfare
In our kennels, we ensure the wellbeing of our dogs through the five domains of animal welfare: nutrition, environment, physical health, behavior, and mental health. They receive high-quality food, fresh water, and individual housing with straw bedding for comfort and warmth. We maintain strict hygiene, preventive health care, and veterinary supervision to prevent disease and injury. Our dogs are encouraged to socialize and exercise freely, expressing natural behavior, while we nurture their mental wellbeing through respectful handling, positive reinforcement, and a calm, safe environment.
